The Pittie Project
New Jersey-based nonprofit and 2025 Hansel Help recipient The Pittie Project has a simple but incredible focus — covering spay/neuter costs for families with pit bull-type dogs (mostly in NJ, but they take applicants nationwide). We donated $5,000 to help them provide more families with free surgeries, which help pets live longer, healthier lives and prevent generations of unwanted litters. Costs per dog usually range from $190–$300, and sometimes cover other essential services like vaccines, microchips, and bloodwork as well. Between early May (when we distributed our grant) and mid July, The Pittie Project had arranged/scheduled 17 pitties for spays and neuters, including these cute faces: Ace, Zeke, Diamond, and Draco! We’re thrilled to support their important mission, especially as vet care costs rise across the country and the overpopulation crisis is worsened without widespread access to spay/neuter.
