Our friends at Pet Unity Project are miracle workers for keeping people and pets together. Thanks to their tireless work, Prince George’s County, Maryland’s almost 30-year-ban on pit bull-type dogs was repealed at the end of last year. That huge step saved lives and helped remove barriers, but like anywhere, many PG County families and their pets still struggle with financial, medical, and behavior challenges. The incredible publicity Pet Unity got with the repeal — as well as the fact that pittie owners in the county are more comfortable asking for help now — has only increased the number of requests they get. We are thrilled to be supporting them with a large grant for community pets this year, and in less than a month, they’ve already started to put the funding to use for four families and pups.
That includes smiley queen Muñeca, who remained the friendliest, wiggliest girl even through the scariest times. Our Hansel Help funding supported her emergency vet visit after she began bleeding due to an extremely rare spay complication known as a stump granuloma. She is doing better now, but may still need further care. Our funding also helped cover the vaccines she needed to be able to stay with her family. We adore this brave girl!
