Our 2026 partners California Bully Rescue regularly take on expensive and difficult medical cases. When they posted about beautiful, sweet senior Madison and the expenses of her heartworm treatment, we knew we wanted to help. We sent a $500 grant to help with Madison’s remaining vet care as well as help CBR cover more of their vet expenses. Madison’s foster says she has remained so sweet even when she didn’t feel well after treatment, and when she started to feel better she regained her playful bounce! The rescue shares:

“We have been treating Miss Madison for heartworm ever since we rescued her back in December from the shelter where she was euthanasia listed and completely overlooked. This sweet senior girl had clearly lived a very hard life and we could not let her down. Since rescuing her, we have spent thousands on medical care and heartworm treatment, and because she’s an older bully breed, she has sadly received almost no interest and very little support toward her care.

Her most recent vet visit alone was just over $1,000. We truly understand why so many people struggle to afford veterinary care these days… and honestly for donation based rescues like ours, it is becoming almost impossible to sustain. We are drowning in medical costs trying to save dogs like Madison, and it’s heartbreaking watching senior dogs get overlooked simply because they aren’t young puppies or trendy designer breeds.

At 50 lbs and 9–10 years young, Madison is proof that age is just a number 💗 She is one of the sweetest, easiest dogs you could ever meet. Completely potty trained, crate trained, playful, affectionate, and happiest just being near her people. Tug-of-war, rope toys, and her beloved tennis ball are some of her favorite things in life. If you sit down, she’ll happily curl up next to you for kisses and cuddles.
